Apart from the two injuries that Mike Snelling spoke about this week on Cats TV, the beds in the nib Medical Room are fortunately looking pretty bare.
At this stage he said the only headache would be coming from the player selectors when they come to choosing the teams.
After last week’s clash against Sydney young ruckman, Nathan Vardy, didn’t recover well from the two knocks he received during play.
Snelling says they’ll again play it safe this week considering Vardy’s medical history.
“He took a knock to the back of the head and obviously on landing he bumped his nose as well.”
“He was really lucid coming from the ground and then he passed all of his concussion tests in the rooms, so that allowed him to go back out on to the field.
“Unfortunately then he coped a knock in play to his pelvis on his left side and he pulled up pretty sore this week. The thing that we have to be mindful of is that he has a problem with his left hip, that we all know about, and we’ve just got to make sure the pain that is related to that pelvic knock doesn’t load his left hip anymore.
“We’ll be fairly conservative with him this week, he was able to have a bit of a trot around today and hopefully we might see him training on Thursday.”
Another unlucky incident happened to Josh Cowan, who has also suffered from numerous injuries, after sustaining a nasty tare on his hamstring, which could see him out for a few weeks.
“As we know he had a hamstring strain a few weeks ago, he had two VFL games back and the irony is that he said he was feeling really great after that second game and going into training he looked really good,” Snelling said.
“He then tracked down and kicked around the corner and just on landing and taking one step after that kick he felt his hamstring tare again and this time it was a more significant strain to what it was previously, so he’s got a few weeks ahead of him in rehab.
“We haven’t given up on him, we’ll keep going and if we can get him back and the VFL continues through the finals then he may have a chance to play later in the year.”
