Skipper has a new trick
James Podsiadly is excited to have Joel Selwood at his end of the ground working the goal square
Cats TV spoke to special guest James Podsiadly and Adam McNicol about the forever improving young skipper, Joel Selwood, on Argue the Toss.
Last week against the Eagles Selwood equaled his career best of four goals after only just setting it one week before against Port Adelaide.
This season he has kicked 25 goals, which is already 12 more than last year's total.
Podsiadly admires Selwood’s tenacity to succeed and says it’s very handy to have another player who can add to the scoreboard.
“He plays the game like a bull at a gate the whole time and with his ability to now come forward and kick a couple of goals is a credit to him,” Podsiadly said.
“As a forward it’s fantastic to see midfielders coming in to kick goals.
Selwood is well on his way to producing another exceptional year and McNicol believes he will be high up in this year’s Brownlow count.
“We know from previous years that he gets a lot of votes and he obviously deserves all of those votes but he’s got an incredibly high average, like .7 or .8 votes per game,” McNicol said.
“He consistently gets about 15 to 20 votes just about every season.
“Every time you look at the Brownlow odds Selwood has to be high because he attracts votes and he’s such an unbelievably consistent player.
“You would have thought he was a complete player already but now he’s added goal kicking. It’s crazy that he can keep getting better.”
