Geelong will be chasing a third consecutive victory when they host Brisbane at the SCG on Thursday night.
While the Cats did not have any match simulation on the weekend, many players have stood out on the track and are in the selection mix this week.
Lachie Henderson
Henderson has been training the house down and could be in line to play his first game this season.
Brisbane’s trio of tall forwards, Eric Hipwood, Daniel McStay and Oscar McInerney have been in excellent form of late and Henderson could assist in in helping shut them down.
“I anticipate we will play Henderson pretty soon,” Geelong Coach Chris Scott said at Tuesday’s press conference.
“He is in really good form and has gone close to playing his way in even though that wasn’t necessarily the plan over the past couple of weeks, so we do have confidence when he does come in, he will perform well.”
Lachie Fogarty
One of a number of young players who are on the fringe of selection after displaying some strong form during match simulation and at training in recent weeks.
Fogarty is equally adept at playing as a small forward or pushing up and supporting the midfield.
He hasn’t featured in the senior side since Round 16, 2019 after injury restricted his output last season.
Sam Simpson
A super consistent team performer, Simpson is right on the cusp of selection having been named an emergency last week.
Was a standout performer in the last match simulation session playing as an inside midfielder and on the wing and appears next in line for a midfield berth.
Jordan Clark
Clark has been named an emergency each week since he was omitted from Geelong’s Round 1 team.
The dashing wingman come half back could come into contention to replace Jed Bews after he suffered an ankle sprain against the Suns.
Clark's speed could come in handy with the likes of Charlie Cameron and former Cat Lincoln McCarthy set to lineup for the opposition on Thursday night.
James Parsons
Has shown glimpses of his potential at AFL level in recent seasons but hasn’t quite been able to fully grasp his opportunities.
Can always be counted on to hit the scoreboard himself or setup opportunities for his teammates.
Likely to be right in the mix after being named an emergency the past two weeks.
Meanwhile Tom Atkins and Rhys Stanley are not far away from a return.
Rhys Stanley
Isn’t far away from a return but may find it challenging to come straight back into the side given the form of Darcy Fort in recent weeks.
“We don’t think Rhys is too far away, he should play in a week or two.”
Tom Atkins
Chris Scott has ruled out Tom Atkins after he missed Geelong’s win against the Suns through injury.
"Tom Atkins won’t be available, but we are optimistic that he will be available next week."
