The Geelong Football Club is mourning the passing of former Premiership player Geoff Williams OAM at the age of 89.
A member of the 1952 Premiership side, Williams played 121 games and kicked one goal for the Cats between 1952-1959.
A defender alongside the likes of John Hyde and Russell Middlemiss, Williams was a dual best & fairest winner (1952 & 1955), a Geelong Football Club Life Member, and received the Reg Hickey Award for services to Australian Football in 1984.
Williams co-founded the YMCA Little League competition in Geelong which continues to thrive today.
In 2016, Williams was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for services to football and the community.
An outstanding contributor to the Geelong community, Williams’ leaves behind a legacy that will continue to live on.
Geelong will wear black arm bands in their game against Fremantle next Monday night at Optus Stadium in honour of Williams.
