Garry McLean is July's Member of the Month, presented by Momentum Energy.
A supporter of Geelong for more than 50 years, Garry was 'thrilled' with the award and received a signed gift pack in the mail after sharing with us a brilliant childhood memory of a time when Graham 'Polly' Farmer and Bill Goggin visited his school in year six.
Today, Garry's favourite current players are Joel Selwood, Patrick Dangerfield and Gary Ablett Jnr, while he is also a big fan of young star Mark O'Connor.
Here is the story Garry shared with us.
In grade six we had a visit to school from Polly Farmer, Bill Goggin and several other players.
They gave the principal several season passes to Geelong games at Kardinia Park, and my class mates and I were given passes on multiple occasions.
My parents put me on the local bus in Church Street, the next boy got on at Minerva Road, the next at Autumn Street and the final class mate at Aberdeen Street.
When we arrived at Kardinia Park we walked up on to the Moorabool Street mound where the men gave us their empty beer games to stand on.
We watched the game and bragged about Polly and Billy coming to our school.
At the end of the game we caught the local bus home in reverse order and when we got to our respective stops, our parents were there waiting for us.
Fifty something years later and I’m still a loyal, proud Cats supporter with no need to stand on empty beer cans on what was essentially a mound of dirt. Go Cats!
