A determined Richmond team proved too strong for Geelong at GMHBA Stadium on Friday night.

The Tigers, who pushed Carlton all the way last week, came out with a point to prove as they posted their first NAB AFL Women's win, defeating Geelong 9.6 (60) to 2.1 (13).

The Cats were dealt a savage blow in the second term, with reigning best and fairest Olivia Purcell injured in a tackle as she kicked a ball.

She took no further part in the contest due to a knee injury.

The Tigers were on from the outset, keeping the Cats scoreless in the first half while kicking six goals of their own.

It was closer after halftime, with the Cats kicking two goals to the Tigers' three, but the damage was already done.

The Cats were not without warriors throughout the game.

Amy McDonald's strong form continued, and she broke through for her first AFLW goal in the final term - the Cats' second of the match.

Danielle Higgins produced her best game of the season, with 14 disposals, four intercepts and a career-high seven tackles.

Meg McDonald was her usual determined self down back, with 11 intercept possessions, 13 disposals, four marks and two tackles.

Monique Conti was the star of the show for the Tigers with 26 disposals, while skipper Katie Brennan kicked three goals and had 17 touches of her own.

The result sees the Tigers stay in 11th, while the winless Cats remain in 13th.
