The votes are in for the Round 8 AFLW Fan MVP award, presented by Viva Energy, and there is a new weekly winner.
First-year player Laura Gardiner was the people’s choice as the Cats’ best player, following an impressive 17 disposals, 11 tackles, four clearances and three intercepts.
The 18-year-old’s tenacity around the contest was a highlight for the Cats, whose pressure against the Greater Western Sydney Giants was brilliant.
Gardiner – who was playing just her second NAB AFL Women’s game – attracted 21 per cent of the votes for the Fan MVP Award in Round 8.
Determined defender Maddy McMahon was second with 14% of the vote, while captain Meg McDonald and Julia Crockett-Grills tied for third with 12% of the vote each.
McDonald was also named in the AFL Women’s Team of the Week.
