On Argue the Toss, Tom Lonergan and journalist Scott Gullan, caught up with Cats TV to identify which Cat has reinvented their game the most this season.
This year, Matthew Stokes’ consecutive performance has been a stand out for Lonergan and he feels that he could be on his way for an all-Australian award, if his A-class form continues.
“It’s hard to go passed Matty Stokes, I think he’s leading in disposals at the footy club at the moment, averaged 15 last year and averaging 26 this year, he’s in career best form and potentially all Australian form,” Lonergan told Cats TV.
Gullan believes a number of key players have heightened their game intensity this year, including first year player, Mark Blicavs, who continues to surprise the club each week.
“He’s been a revelation, it’s not a reinvention, it’s just a hello I am an AFL footballer. He’s been an incredible story, the best football story of this year,” Gullan said.
He also feels Motlop and Bartel have increased their pace on the field, and Stokes has rediscovered his.
“I think Steve Motlop has gone to another level, and Stokesy we knew had that level and he’s just found it again,” Gullan explained.
“And for the older players, I think Jimmy Bartel was clearly hurt last year with the foot problems and battled through, this year we can see he’s fully fit and he is back to his elite level.”
