Geelong supporters have given themselves and the club an early Christmas present by snapping up Cats' memberships in record numbers.
The club passed the 30,000 member mark today, making it the first time in the club’s history that 30,000 members have signed up before December 25th.
After achieving a record membership number of 43,803 in 2014, the club is on track to exceed that in 2015.
The current number is significantly higher than the 25,264 that had signed up by the same time last year.
Geelong CEO Brian Cook thanked those who have already committed as Mighty Members and said the support showed that supporters know the club continues to head in an exciting direction.
“Reaching 30,000 members before Christmas is a really encouraging sign for the club as we move forward into 2015," Cook said.
“We thank all those Mighty Members who are already on board and encourage our supporters and fans to sign up.
“It’s an exciting time for the Geelong Football Club, and we have a number of exciting home games early in the 2015 season at Simonds Stadium. We are also excited about stage 4 of the redevelopment which will get underway at the end of next season, further increasing our stadium’s capacity and facilities.
“The club is embarking on an exciting journey and we want as many members as possible to share that with us.”
Geelong coach Chris Scott also encouraged Cats fans to show their support.
“The support from our Mighty Members is so important to our success as a team,” Scott said.
“Seeing our member number grow during the off-season gives everyone at the club a boost. We encourage all supporters to get on board and become a member because we need you.”
