Gryan Miers speaks to media following Wednesday morning's training session at GMHBA Stadium.

Miers on what he is working on

There are so many different ways to improve.

I want to be the best runner in the league, I want to be the best kick in the league, I want to be the tallest player in the league..... probably won't get there, but those are all things that I can try to improve on.

Those are things I will be trying to do, I may not necessarily achieve them all. If I can get one percent better at all these things, or steal something from another player that I can do, it will make me that little bit better.

I might look like a different player to last year, but I want to improve my overall importance to the team and that is all that matters.

Miers on the players that have impressed during pre-season

I have really loved Mitch Knevitt.

People always put pressure on the first year to get that jump into their second year, but I think more of the blossoming comes in your third year once you have those two years of experience.

Mitch Knevitt is into his fourth year now, he has had two years of AFL and he is looking fantastic to me.

Ted Clohesy is in that group too, Oisin Mullin and guys that have been around the AFL and had the taste, but now they are hungry and ready to jump in.

They are ready to play huge roles, kinda like Ollie Dempsey did last year.

Miers on becoming a senior player at Geelong

We have got such a good, young group that makes my job easier as a leader and an older player.

I have been prepared well by the older lads, I am ready to take on that role.

Not saying that I need to be a complete leader, but I will help out where I see fit.

Pat [Dangerfield] and Stew [Tom Stewart] have such different leadership abilities, we have got 'Blitz' [Mark Blicavs] there as well which means I can come in and do my little part for the team.

Miers on the lead into Opening Round

I felt it when I got back from the eight weeks off and it was only 90 days until the Opening Round, thinking we didn't have long to get ready.

Since we have been back on GMHBA Stadium, it feels like we are ready to go.

All the boys are itching for it, it was a disappointing finish last year so you just want to get back out there and forget about it.

We have a great opportunity against the same team that won it all, we want to take it off them in the Opening Round.
