Cats forward Daniel Menzel has put $10,000 back into the Geelong community via the AFLPA’s ‘Players Care’ initiative.

The initiative sees every AFL player donate $50 per game to the AFL Players Care fund, netting a total of $435,600 each year. Of those funds, $217,800 makes its way to not-for-profit youth organisation Ladder while the remaining $180,000 is equally distributed across all 18 AFL clubs for further charitable donations.

Named the Cats’ Club Community Champion for 2016, Menzel has selected the Barwon Health Foundation and the Geelong Cats Foundation as his charities of choice. Both will receive $5000 each.

Menzel’s donation to the Barwon Health Foundation will be allocated to the Project Love campaign, which aims to secure the redevelopment of the Andrew Love Cancer Centre. Menzel has also been an ambassador for the Foundation for the past five years.

The 25-year-old forward has also played a key role with the Cats in the Community Program – consisting of 10 club-based initiatives with the central purpose of building a better, healthier community.
