Geelong's VFLW side has succumbed to back-to-back losses after going down to a still-undefeated Casey Demons by 11 points on Saturday.

The Cats made the most of their opportunities early, but eventually the weight of the Demons' relentless attack got the better of them as they lost 5.4 (34) to 5.15 (45).

The Demons were first out of the block, but a goal to Georgia Clarke levelled the ledger midway through the opening quarter.

With Bree Beckley a late withdrawal, acting captain Mia Skinner stepped up and was particularly prominent in the opening quarter, kicking two goals - including one that bounced through after the quarter-time siren to give the Cats an eight-point lead.

With second-placed Casey upping the challenge in the second term, the Cats responded with a strong, high-pressure game.

Late in the second quarter, they led the tackle count by 35-17, despite having had two more disposals than the Demons. The Demons kept pushing and got within a point on a few occasions, but a goal to Sachi DeGiacomi restored a seven-point buffer for the Cats heading into the second half.

Clarke's second goal of the game gave the Cats a 13-point lead in the third term, but the Demons quickly responded, and by three-quarter-time had levelled the scoreboard.

The Cats couldn't add to their tally in the final term as the Demons peppered the goals, kicking 1.5 to win by 11.

Tamara Smith's strong form continued, with the Cats' midfielder collecting 22 disposals and four clearances, as well as laying 12 tackles.

Carly Remmos was the Cats' top possession-getter with 23, while Isabella Hill had a breakout game, with 21 disposals and two clearances, and her dashing run featuring in some great plays for the Cats.

Geelong VFLW senior coach Andrew Bruce said the Cats would look to keep working on their defensive transition as they look to bounce back in two weeks' time against Essendon.

"We know where we're at and we'll put the work into the girls - we're lucky the girls are a really good group and take that feedback on and look to get better," he said.

"I think Casey are a very strong team - they move the footy really well, and I thought their ability to transition was really strong and so it was a great test for us. Things that we didn't get right, they really showed up.

"We knew we were a little bit lucky at quarter-time, but you've got to make the most of your opportunities, and we certainly did that. Mia Skinner early was outstanding with that up forward, kicking us a couple of goals.

"But we certainly looked dangerous early when we had possession of the footy, that's for sure."

The Cats' coach praised the performance of Hill, whom he praised for her growth on the field.

"We were really rapt - Bell is constantly wanting to work on her game. Her level of intensity around the footy is just great, and her attack on the game," Bruce said.

"Over the first few weeks, she hasn't got some of that right, in relation to disposal, but today she used that so much better. It was really pleasing to see that growth in her.

"We're five games into the season, so hopefully over the next nine or whatever games we play, hopefully we keep on seeing that growth and she'll have a really solid year for us."

The VFLW has a league-wide bye next weekend. Geelong will take on top side Essendon the following weekend at Deakin University Elite Sports Precinct.
