17 HAMISH McINTOSH sat atop the possession tally at quarter time, collecting seven touches in the opening term. There is no bigger challenge in football than Fremantle’s Aaron Sandilands, but McIntosh was more than up to the task. 20 STEVE JOHNSON expected the close attention of tagger Ryan Crowley and he was not disappointed. Johnson was battered from pillar to post by not only Crowley, but a host of his Fremantle teammates. He was restricted to 15 possessions and won two clearances, both from centre bounces. Receiving four free kicks did not relieve his frustration and he drew interest but not punishment from the Match Review Panel when he lashed out at Lachie Neale with his foot.

21 JORDAN MURDOCH was outstanding last week against the Kangaroos but struggled to have the same influence against Fremantle. 27 MATHEW STOKES was one of the few Cats who performed well below their best. He gathered just 10 disposals despite playing 92% of game time. It is the first time this season he has played a full game and tallied less than 20 possessions. Stokes’ record reflects an excellent year and suggests he won’t play two poor games in a row.

28 ALLEN CHRISTENSEN has not missed a beat since returning from injury and he made a valuable contribution on Saturday with his 22 possessions. 39 SHANE KERSTEN was an outside chance to make his debut in last year’s Qualifying Final and almost a year later faced Fremantle for the first time in just his seventh match.
