Jonathon Ceglar has his eyes firmly set on September after making a big impression in his first game back from a serious leg injury in the VFL on the weekend.
Named among the best, the former Hawk walked away with 20 disposals (16 contested), 36 hitouts, 11 ground ball gets and six clearances in his first game for the club since breaking his leg back in April against Collingwood in the VFL.
Ceglar arrived at GMHBA Stadium from Hawthorn during last year’s Trade Period but an unlucky run of injuries has largely kept him off the park, but with some match conditioning to come, he’ll look to be pushing for senior selection in the coming weeks.
“I think I'm three surgeries down already this year so it's been a torrid time but hopefully that's all behind us now and I can push on to the back end of the year,” he told Cats Media this week.
“I've probably still got a bit of match conditioning to go, everyone is very fit this time of the year, but come a month's time, hopefully, things will fall into place.”
Despite not yet playing as much football as he’d like, he could not be happier with his time at Geelong so far.
“It's been an unbelievable club to be at considering the time I've had,” he said “Everyone has been welcoming and it's an unbelievably professional environment with a nice, relaxed atmosphere which suits me down to the ground.”
But according to 204cm big man, he’s been brought to the club for one reason: a deep September run, and that’s what his focus will be, working in tandem with fellow ruckman, Rhys Stanley.
“That's the reason I came here, for that back end of finals,” he said. “Rhys has shouldered a lot of the work this year which I'm very thankful for, but pushing into September hopefully we can create a good partnership.”
