Daniel Menzel says he is ready to be unleashed against Adelaide on Thursday night, boosting Geelong's push for a top-four spot.

The match would be the star forward's first in 12 weeks after a groin issue sidelined him for more than two months.

After two VFL hit-outs, including playing just a half in managed game time on Sunday, Menzel has put his hand up for a return.

"The body feels good, I'm happy with how the body feels, so I feel ready," Menzel told AFL.com.au on Monday.

"It's only four days until we play so it won't be a lot (of work) for me. I think that's the plan (to play against the Crows), but we'll confirm it today and then have the decision by the end of the day."

"It's going to be massive for me to be able to play footy again, back in the AFL as well.

"I had an all right start to the season and hopefully can build on that, and we're still every chance for top four.

"It'll be great just to be back in there with the boys in that forward line."

Menzel's blistering start to the season included 15 goals from the opening five games to have the Cats ranked No.1 in the competition for scores per inside 50 entry.

Geelong has gone from averaging 96.2 points per game with Menzel to 80.5 in the last 10 weeks.

The South Australian native said he couldn't wait to return to Adelaide Oval, the scene of his last match against Port Adelaide this season.

"It's ironic my last game was in Adelaide in round five so the family's rapt that I'm just playing over there at the moment and nowhere else," Menzel said.

In the VFL side that travelled to Frankston on Sunday, Sam Simpson played a half in restricted minutes, keeping him in the frame for his first AFL match of the season.

Cory Gregson saw only limited game time, succumbing to the foot soreness that kept him out last week, a concern after an 18-month layoff due to a stress fracture in his navicular bone.

Jordan Cunico sat out the game, having been dropped after playing every AFL match between rounds four and 15. He may be considered for a berth on the flight to Adelaide.

Nakia Cockatoo was a notable absentee, missing a second consecutive week with illness, and is still yet to play after a knee injury in round three.

Lachie Henderson is closing in on an AFL comeback, but may have to wait until round 18 after playing a full match with 28 disposals against Frankston.

Stewart Crameri kicked five goals in his first game back from eye surgery, while George Horlin-Smith collected 42 disposals, 14 clearances and two goals.
