As Geelong prepares to crown its AFLW Season 7 best and fairest, there are plenty of Cats well in contention for the award.

Reigning two-time best and fairest Amy McDonald’s upwards trajectory continued this season, with the 24-year-old producing a career-best campaign.

McDonald topped the league for average disposals (24.8) and contested possessions (15.1), and averaged 7.4 tackles and 6.8 clearances per game.

She was named in the AFLW All-Australian side for the first time, and finished fifth in the AFL Players’ Association Most Valuable Player award.

The classy midfielder faces a stern challenge as she looks to make it three in a row, with young talent emerging and seasoned stars producing career-best years.

Young gun Georgie Prespakis has had a meteoric rise to become one of the premier midfielders in the competition in just her second season of AFLW footy.

The 19-year-old was also named in the All-Australian side and made the AFLPA 22under22 team, after a season that saw her average 21.8 disposals, 7.2 tackles and 5.7 clearances a game.

Season 6’s runner-up Becky Webster was a consistently strong performer, with career-best stats capping another big season in the midfield.

Webster, who was elevated to the Cats’ player leadership group this season, averaged 17.6 disposals, 3.6 tackles, 2.2 clearances and a team-high 3.7 inside 50s.

Captain Meghan McDonald had another sterling season in defence, with her intercepting a highlight as she proved almost unbeatable in one-on-one contests.

The skipper averaged 12.3 disposals, 2.5 spoils and 2.1 intercept marks a game.

Chantel Emonson is another contender from defence, with the skilful half-back a consistent contributor across the season.

Emonson averaged 12.6 disposals for an impressive 231.3 metres gained per game, as well as 3.4 intercept possessions, 2.3 rebound 50s and 1.5 score involvements per game.

A new addition to the backline, Claudia Gunjaca also had a great year, with her strong, contested intercept marking a highlight.

Gunjaca averaged 8.3 disposals, 4.5 intercept possessions and 2.2 rebound 50s a game.

Shelley Scott started strongly in defence, before going forward and having a huge impact in attack from Round 5 onwards, kicking nine goals for the season and averaging 2.6 marks a game, with some sensational goals and marks across the course of the season.

Fellow forward Chloe Scheer enjoyed her best season to date, named in the All-Australian side for the first time after kicking 13 goals for the season, with her contested marking and ability to clear the ball highlights of her game.

Nina Morrison was brilliant in her second full season in a row after returning from her second knee reconstruction, playing through the wing, inside midfield and up forward.

The 21-year-old averaged 16.1 disposals, 5.7 tackles and 2.1 clearances a game, and was named in the AFLPA 22under22 team for a second time, following her selection in 2020.

The Best and Fairest Night will also see the Cats award the Geelong AFLW Fan MVP, Hoops Award and Carter Family Community Champion for Season 7.
