Geelong coach Chris Scott is happy with the role a fit Gary Ablett has been performing for the Cats this season.

The 34-year-old has played 11 games, averaging 28.8 disposals and kicking 10 goals.

“We have been really happy with the role he has played for us this year, some games have been better than others, but his commitment to play the role we ask of him is first class,” said Scott.

“I don’t think he is playing as well as he has when he was 29 or 30, but I think that is a pretty logical expectation.”

Despite external reports, Scott confirmed that Ablett is fine and is not being hampered by shoulder or elbow issues of the past.

“I am happy to talk about it because we are really confident that it is not impacting his performance at all.”

“There are times where I wouldn’t be prepared to talk about those things because if they are a bit sore you don’t want to show the opposition, but I think as far as he is concerned they can go their hardest.”

The team will depart for Adelaide on Wednesday in preparation for their round 17 match against the Crows on Thursday night.
