Number one draft pick Nina Morrison will wear the number nine in her first season of AFLW.
Morrison, who previously wore 20 when playing with the club’s VFLW side, moved to the single digit once hearing of its availability.
Morrison is one of three Cats VFLW players to change their numbers for the AFLW season. Georgia Clarke has moved from 54 to 17 and tall-forward Maddie Boyd has swapped from six to 26 in order to wear her dad’s old playing number.
Boyd was one of many players to choose numbers with family ties. Number two draft pick Sophie Van De Heuvel will follow in her father’s footsteps wearing 27 as will Phoebe McWilliams in the number 23.
Key signing Melissa Hickey will wear 18, the number previously worn by relative Reg Hickey, whose name adorns the Hickey Stand at GMHBA Stadium.
Other new Cats include Aasta O’Connor who will take on Joel Selwood’s number 14 and Julia Crockett-Grills who will don the number six.
Rene Caris has chosen number one, Georgie Rankin will wear her old basketball number (10), Meghan McDonald 11, and youngsters Becky Webster and Denby Taylor will wear 21 and 28 respectively.
17 of the club’s VFLW list will transfer their numbers across for the AFLW season.
