We take a look at which Cats are in the selection mix to face Brisbane at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday.
Harry Taylor
The veteran has missed the past two weeks after pulling up sore against Sydney. His versatility and experience will be valuable coming into the backend of the season, should he get on top of his injury concerns.
Charlie Constable (26 disposals, six marks, three tackles)
One of the best in the VFL with 26 disposals and six marks. After an interrupted start to the year, Constable has been pushing for an AFL debut with some standout performances and it could come this week against Brisbane.
Jordan Murdoch (19 disposals, four marks, one goal)
The speedster was omitted after a quiet performance against Sydney and has since put in a good couple of weeks at VFL level. His outside run and booming left foot are his biggest weapons and could be called upon this week.
Sam Simpson (17 disposals, four tackles, five clearances)
Five clearances for the on baller to go with 17 disposals and four tackles, Simpson is pushing hard for selection in the final five rounds of the year. His ability to play up forward and in the midfield improves his chances, as does his good VFL form.
Jackson Thurlow (10 disposals, four marks)
Sat out the second half as the carryover emergency for the AFL team. Thurlow was busy with 10 disposals and four inside 50s. His versatility to play tall or small down back or push up onto a wing is important as he pushes for a recall.
Ryan Abbott/Zac Smith (22 disposals, five marks, 90 hitouts, one goal)
Both rucks dominated against Casey in the VFL and both would be in the AFL team if it wasn’t for the form of current ruck Rhys Stanley. Smith has had very impressive three weeks since returning from a back complaint, while Abbott is pushing hard for an AFL debut after an outstanding second season on the list.
