A last minute goal by Casey Tutungi has given the Cats a four point win after Casey got back the lead with a minute left. That goal gave the Cats a 15.10.100 to 14.12.96 win the win moved them within striking distance of the top four.

The First quarter was an even contest with Geelong breaking away to an early advantage with Westwood and Podisadly kicking two goals apiece before Casey rallied back late to be within six points of the Cats. Moles had a great quarter collecting 12 touches, he was well supported by Raidme who collected nine touches for the quarter.

The second quarter saw Casey get a jump on the Cats and take a five point lead into the half time break. Laidler battled hard across the half back line collecting nine touches and Moles was again in the thick of things collecting eight touches to have 20 touches for the half.

With Dave Johnson off injured for the rest of the game and Ottens only playing a half the Cats were forced to play the rest of the match with only two on the interchange. They didn’t let this bother them with everybody stepping up to keep Casey to one goal for the quarter whilst kicking four goals themselves. Geelong’s third quarter dominance was reflected in the s tats. The Cats had six more contest marks, 12 more contested ball, seven more inside 50’s six more clearances and 12 more hit outs for the quarter. Donohue had nine touches across half back whilst Raidme had eight touches for the quarter. A number of players also collected seven touches for the quarter.

Holding on to a nine point lead heading into the last term and with Djerrkura off injured leaving only one fresh player on the ground the Cats worked hard and built a four goal lead. Casey rallied and when Sylvia kicked truly from 50 out the Cats were down by two points with a minute left. After a quick centre clearance the ball was down the Cats 50 quickly and Tutangi pounced on the ball and with a nice little dribble kick slotted home the winner. Moles had nine touches for the quarter whilst Firman had seven touches for the quarter.

Geelong ended the match without having anybody on the bench after Kennedy limped off midway through the last quarter.

After the game I spoke to Amos and he labelled this win as “The best win we’ve had all year with the circumstances having no bench for the last quarter and having many VFL listed players in it was a really good win by the boys.” He also spoke about how far the team has come and matured as only eight weeks ago Casey beat them by a fair amount.

For Geelong Podsiadly kicked six goals and had 20 possessions whilst Westwood kicked three goals for the game. Moles collected 36 touches, seven clearances and kicked a goal, Firman had 26 touches and Donohue had 25 across half back, Blake and West dominated the ruck having 49 hit outs between them and Tutungi had 21 touches, eight tackles and kicked the winning goal.

Speaking to Moles after the game about his performance and also the team’s performance this is what he had to say “We got told before the game to take the game on run and carry and try and open the game up, it’s the one thing we worked on and seemed to work well. Our pressure was really good to which caused a lot of turnovers.”

Also speaking to Ottens after the game this is what he had to say “I’m just glad to wear the blue and white jumper for the first time in a while and play in a side that’s going really well at the moment.”
