We take a look at which players are in the selection mix for our round 18 match against Melbourne at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday night.
Harry Taylor
The swingman missed last week after pulling up sore against the Swans. Will be a big inclusion if he and Henderson come back into the team this week.
Lachie Henderson (20 disposals, 10 marks, 5 rebounds)
Henderson backed up last week’s outstanding performance with another prominent display down back as he edges closer to an AFL return after a long layoff. Looks match fit and would be raring to go for the crucial clash against Melbourne.
Zac Smith (21 disposals, 45 hitouts, two goals)
Playing himself back into some good form after missing with back problems. Was given more responsibility and was dominant. His ruck work was outstanding, he impressed with his follow up work around the stoppages and the ground as he finished with 21 disposals and six clearances. May be brought in to curb the influence of Max Gawn.
Jordan Cunico (25 disposals, five tackles)
Bounced back after being omitted from the seniors after a quiet couple of weeks. His classy ball use and outside run may be required to counteract the Demon’s free flowing style of play.
Jackson Thurlow (19 disposals, five marks, seven rebounds)
Was an emergency against Adelaide and definitely put his name up with a solid display down back. Teamed up well with Henderson and Timm House to shut down Sandringham’s attacking forays, as they restricted them to four goals in the last three quarters.
George Horlin-Smith (25 disposals, four tackles, one goal)
Another solid performance from GHS. Took a bit of a backseat as the VFL listed midfielders did most of the heavy lifting but was still influential with 25 disposals and seven clearances. Never too far away from a call up.
Charlie Constable (36 disposals, eight marks, one goal)
Edges closer and closer to a debut as he continues to put in good performances in the VFL. Was the leading possession getter on the ground and played a bit more outside than inside as he builds his repertoire.
Jordan Murdoch (27 disposals, seven marks, six inside 50s)
The speedster was prominent again with 27 disposals with 18 of them coming in a massive second half. Six inside 50s to go with it as he again puts his hand up for a recall to the seniors.
