Geelong superstar Gary Ablett has set his sights on a return next week against Greater Western Sydney after his latest hamstring setback.
Ablett clocked 10 kilometres in a punishing session on Saturday morning as he looks to overcome his second hamstring strain of the year, this one suffered in round three.
"Today was a really important session for me to get through and then I've got a couple of important sessions next week where I need to tick a few boxes," Ablett said on the big screen ahead of the Cats' clash with Sydney.
"I'm confident I can get up for this week (against the Giants) if I get through those sessions, if not it will be the week after.
"Everything's going well, the physios have done a fantastic job, hammy's feeling nice and strong doing plenty of strengthening work in the gym and I just can't wait to get back out there."
Ablett's first hamstring complaint came four weeks before round one, and he missed all of the Cats' pre-season fixtures before returning for the opening round.
He then re-injured it in the third term against West Coast in round three.
"That was probably the frustrating thing to be honest. I did do 90 per cent of pre-season, I had a little niggle in my hamstring just towards the end of pre-season," Ablett said.
The Cats' clash with the Giants on Friday night in round seven will come 25 days after his most recent setback.
