New Cats recruit Kate Surman and her dog Doug are proud to wear the Hoops.

AFLW recruit and proud Cats supporter Kate Surman has settled in well during the first two weeks of the pre-season at Geelong.

The forward/midfielder was transferred from Port Adelaide to Geelong in the off-season and already feels like she’s found her home away from home.

“The staff here are awesome, and the girls have been great, I just can’t believe how welcoming they’ve been,” she said.

Surman has dreamed of playing for Geelong since well before she can remember.

“I’m stocked. Walking in here, I saw this ground when it had standing room, so for me to go out and see those big lights and all of the grandstands was pretty cool.  I’m very lucky and fortunate to be at the Cats,” she said.

Surman has already been immersed into Geelong’s community atmosphere attending Geelong VFLW and AFL games.

“It was pretty cool to see a lot of my favourite players close up,” she said.

“I think the thing that stood out to me was when the VFL girls won against Essendon. I had goosebumps when I heard Geelong’s song sung in a team that I’m probably going to be involved in, so that was a bit sentimental for me.

After 36 games for two other clubs, Surman has already well and truly settled at GMHBA Stadium.
