Heading into the final round of voting Selwood held a one vote lead over Collingwood star Dane Swan and a two vote lead over former teammate Gary Ablett.
But it was to be Ablett’s night with a three vote game in the final round pushing him into the outright lead on 28, one ahead of Selwood on 27.
Selwood’s teammate Steve Johnson polled the most votes of the ineligible players with 25.
The Cats as a team polled the third most votes with 89 behind Sydney on 95 and Fremantle on 90.
