Cats TV asked, Tom Lonergan, and journalist, Scott Gullan, whether they believe the Cats can continue to play top class footy with three tall players in their forward line.

Last weekend the Cats welcomed back the 198cm, Nathan Vardy, who took Podsiadly’s position to join Hawkins up front. It didn’t take long for Vardy to feel at home, kicking four goals in his first game back this season.

Lonergan realises the disadvantages of having three tall forwards, however, he believes they are three irreplaceable players who are capable of winning the game.

“Well, as a defender walking back to see those three guys sitting in the forward line would be very daunting," Lonergan told Cats TV.

"We all know about Pods and Hawk but Nathan Vardy is an incredible talent, he’s 6 foot 6, 105 kilos, can run like the wind and can take a huge pluck too and kick goals.”

“I think they’re all match winners and a huge headache for Scotty, I think they can exist for sure.”

On the other hand, Gullan can’t see Chris Scott positioning Hawkins, Podsiadly and Vardy in the one forward line. He feels it’s Hawkin’s domain, despite Vardy’s electric performance on Saturday night.

“I think you have to be careful because Tom Hawkins is getting back to fitness and he owns that forward line, that’s what he did last year and he won the best and fairest,” Gullan said.

“Vardy’s the X-factor so he can spend a little bit of time down there but I don’t like all three just plonked down there, but I’m sure they’ll figure out a system.”
