Here are the key takeaways from when coach Dan Lowther and vice captain Nina Morrison spoke to media following Geelong's Round 5 loss to Melbourne.

Lowther on Geelong’s performance…
Although the score line was quite favourable against us, it didn’t feel like we were not giving our best and trying to negate as much as we could. It just seemed the scoreboard ticked over for the Dees.
First half and first quarter we had our moments. There were a few occasions early in the game where we may have had some scoreboard pressure, it lived in our front half the first six or seven minutes, but we just didn’t make that time count and then they would go down the other end and score.
Full credit to them, they moved the ball beatifically and fast. So, it is frustrating around that when you do dominate field position, but you give up a score at times and it kind of felt that way throughout the course of the game. We were okay but we still didn’t make up the ground, so it was an interesting night.
Lowther on Geelong taking a step forward…
We didn’t put on too much scoreboard pressure after half time but our contested ball numbers were better our control numbers were better… it was a better second half than the Kangaroos.
That’s what we talked about during the week. Around can we learn from these types of scenarios and stay in hunt, and we just gave up too many scores clearly a bit too easily. So, lots to learn and lots to take away. It’s disappointing but at the same time we have got five more weeks now to try and get a few things right.
Morrison on her start to the season…
I think I’ve probably had my best start to a year. I’ve felt like I’ve been consistent and playing my role which is nice.
Like the rest of the team, I just need to keep getting better at running out the game and performing in the second half when we need to keep elevating, so we will keep focusing on that.
Morrison on what it’s like playing alongside Aishling Moloney…
She has been super. It was probably her best game as well tonight. Three goals and very exciting. She brings a good energy to the group, and she is hard to stop when she is on a roll, so it was good signs from her tonight.
Lowther on Becky’s return to the side in recent weeks and her role down back…
It has been a good move for us. For her to come back and give us some stability behind the ball and just use some of her speed and agility, and her fundamentals as well as she is a really nice long kick. She played juniors as a defender so it’s a familiar place for her but to be able to roll her through the midfield when we need to as well gives a bit more depth through that space as well. So far so good and she’s happy playing in defence and it just throws something different to the opposition.
