Young draftee Jordan Cunico said he was“very thankful” to be a Cat and was still in shock, as he began his first dayon the track surrounded by premiership stars including Jimmy Bartel and JoelSelwood.

Geelong selected the Victorian midfielderfrom Gippsland Power at pick 59 in Thursday night’s national draft.

“It’s very honoring to get around thosesorts of guys and I’m just a bit shocked and not sure on what to say to them…but they’re all good blokes,” Cunico told Cats TV.

Compared with the contact he received fromother clubs, Cunico had no inkling that Geelong were interested in him havingonly had one brief meeting after the draft combine.

“No not really, I only had one interviewwith them after draft camp; so a part from that, that was my only interviewwith Geelong,” Cunico said.

“I had interest from about another 14different clubs, I had my hopes high but you never know what’s going to happenin the draft but I’m just grateful for the opportunity that Geelong has givenme.”

Cunico will wear the number 31 guernsey forthe Cats.
