With a new role in the ruck, Sam De Koning says he has full trust in Chris Scott and the coaching staff, and he is prepared to tackle his new position head on.

Scott swung the change last week, sending De Koning to play against his brother Tom when the Cats battled Carlton.

Playing a big role in the Cats win over Essendon, De Koning collected 21 disposals and five clearances, with his slick hands and work rate out of stoppages a highlight.

De Koning spoke on RSN Breakfast on Tuesday morning and said while it was a big change, he has full trust in Chris Scott and the strategies he puts in place every week.

"He is the ultimate leader,” De Koning told RSN.

“We have undeniable trust in what he can do, along with the assistant coaches.

“He always has a plan, and we just try to execute it as well as we can for him.

“Every week we go out and we know that if we put his strategies in place, we can win and we can win well.”

De Koning is only 57 games into his AFL career, but he is already a Premiership player and is touted as one of the best young talents in the competition.

In his four seasons at Geelong, the versatile star has played alongside a number of club champions like Joel Selwood and Patrick Dangerfield.

De Koning opened up on the privilege it is to wear the blue and white Hoops every week, while touching on the champions that have helped him develop along the way.

“I count my lucky stars everyday that I have landed at Geelong with those great players around me to learn from,” De Koning said.

“When you walk through the door the standard is set for you, the club has got such a great history to be proud of.

“Every time you pull on the jumper it fills you with pride, to have so many legends here still makes me pretty starstruck walking around.

“It has been pretty surreal, but it gives you a lot of trust when you run out there on gameday.”
