He played his junior footy with the Cobden Bombers and the Geelong Falcons, made his AFL debut in Geelong and now Gary Rohan will play his 200th AFL game at GMHBA Stadium, in a full circle moment for the Premiership Cat.

Rohan is now into his sixth season with the Cats, with the forward playing 93 Cats games, booting 117 goals.

The speedy forward was selected by Sydney with pick six in 2009 National draft, following a brilliant campaign at the AFL National Under 18 Championships, which saw him win the MVP award and All-Australian Honours.

In his first AFL season, Rohan fittingly made his debut at Kardinia Park in round seven for Sydney, where the Cats defeated the Swans by 67 points.

The journey hasn’t been all smooth sailing, particularly when Rohan suffered a badly broken leg in 2012 which saw a 16-month gap between games at the top level.

Rohan spent nine seasons with the Swans before returning home and joining Geelong via trade at the end of the 2018 season.

Rohan joined Meg McDonald and Shannon Byrnes on this weeks’ episode of ‘To the Final Bell,’ discussing his career and how he always wanted to end up at Geelong.

“Forward pressure has always been a focus of mine,” Rohan said.

“Trying to use my speed as an asset, I feel like it is a big challenge and I really want to hunt opposition down.

“I was a Geelong supporter growing up, living down in this area.

“I wanted to play for Geelong, through the draft they indicated I would be picked if slid far enough down the order.

“I enjoyed my time at Sydney, I had a feeling I might come back eventually but I am glad I did in the end.”

Perhaps the most iconic moment of Rohan’s career came in the 2022 Qualifying Final against Collingwood, which left commentators comparing the speedy forward to Wayne Carey.

Rohan booted three goals and pulled down several crucial marks, while flicking the ball to Max Holmes for the game winning goal, capping off an incredible performance.

The win propelled the Cats into a Preliminary Final, which ultimately ended with Geelong winning the 2022 Premiership.

Last weekend proved that Rohan is an important part of the Geelong team, booting two goals and dishing off three goal assists in a match turning performance against Essendon.

The speedy forward has faced the Bombers 12 times in his career, remarkably maintaining a perfect record with 12 straight wins against the club.

While still having a big impact on field, Rohan is also important member of the Cats AFLW program as the development coach.
