Despite being celebrated for a number of brilliant moves that have sparked his side, Chris Scott is not taking credit for the Cats resurgence over the past month.

Geelong has recorded three consecutive wins over finals contenders, taking down Collingwood at the MCG last Friday night to move back into the top four.

Scott believes there have not been many big changes from a coaching perspective, rather being open and adaptable as the side has evolved during the 2024 season.

“I don't see our coaching group as any different other than what we are trying to do with the whole team, that's keep finding ways to get better and be open to evolution,” Scott said.

“I think I said it a couple of weeks ago, I don't think any team is good enough to sit back and play their style and whatever happens, happens that we will just be too good.

“We need to keep striving to be better, that's part of having some younger players coming into the team and being open to what they can bring.

“That extends to our coaches as well, I don't think we dropped our bundle when we weren't going that well.

“We had some confidence that we would get through it, but we also weren't thinking everything was fine and not worrying about it, we are always striving for balance.”

The Cats will face another big challenge on Saturday night, when they host the Western Bulldogs at GMHBA Stadium.

The Bulldogs are sitting on the cusp of the top eight, following a big win over Carlton last week with Saturday night posing as another important clash for both teams.

Geelong have made one change for Saturday night’s clash, with Scott noting that Mitch Knevitt has earned his way back into the side with a string of big performances in the VFL.

“We think Jhye Clark has played pretty well in the AFL team, as much as anything it is about Mitch Knevitt playing really well,” Scott said.

“He came into our team against Essendon at the MCG and played really well, was picked the following week and had to withdraw through illness that morning.

“We couldn't get him back into the team the week after, he was really unlucky but he went back to the VFL and played really well to force his way back into the team.

“It is much more about Knevitt than it is about Clark, but we still would love to see Jhye keep working on what he has been working on because he has been doing it well at AFL level.”

The Cats and Bulldogs will do battle in the traditional Retro Game on Saturday night, with tickets still available through Ticketmaster.
