Meg McDonald and Cameron Ling were joined by special guest, Tom Hawkins on this week’s episode of Geelong cats podcast ‘To the Final Bell.’

Reviewing the North Melbourne Game

(Timestamp: 1:27 – 15:15)

Meg McDonald: “I really liked Ollie Henry's return to form after missing a few games and playing a few as the sub.

He was launching at the ball again and clunking some really nice marks.

Ollie has really worked out his kicking from beyond the arc, doing his little side shuffle and taking advantage of running off his line.

I feel like players try to do the arc and rarely have a proper routine approach to it, he seems to be sinking them with ease at the moment.”

Cameron Ling: “It is a good point you make because sometimes you can see right across the league, players who don't know about the distance and do a late run around but clearly don't practice it.

They don't have a routine for a kick beyond their distance, they just try to grab an extra metre. Ollie does.”

Tom Hawkins Joins the Podcast

(Timestamp: 16:40 – 37:45)

Tom Hawkins: “Certain sessions I have really enjoyed, others become a bit of a grind.

First and foremost I would love to be out playing on the weekend, training and doing other things with the group.

For me personally the year started off well, I was a bit slow trying to find some form through the middle of the year, probably mirrored the club's progression a little bit too.

It has been nice to reset in a really weird way.

I can't do anything about the injury, so you change your mental approach to football and that has given me an opportunity to get a touch fitter than what I was through the middle of the year.

I have been able to work on some things, that low level intrinsic stuff that I had done a lot of work on.

It has re-energised and refocused my approach to football.

It is in some ways nice, eight or nine weeks is a bit too long but it has been enjoyable."

Previewing the Upcoming Clash with Adelaide

(Timestamp: 38:02 – 41:38)

Cameron Ling: “It is a really important game, we touched on last week that the Cats form at GMHBA Stadium has been patchy with a couple of losses.

As soon as you have a few losses in one season, you start thinking hang on what happened to our home ground advantage.

The team will be keen to make sure they lock in and remind everyone how hard the Cats are to play here at this ground.

The Crows knocked off Essendon a couple of weeks ago in a really high scoring game, they are a dangerous opposition with really good kickers of the footy like Hinge, Soligo and Dawson.

They have got some really highly skilled players and if you let them have a bit of time and space like the Bombers did, they can cut you up with their foot skills.

Meg McDonald: “It is something we can hopefully negate with the way we defend this ground.

I know we have our defence plan and attack really going well at the moment, so hopefully we can pick a few of those kicks off.”
