In a see-sawing affair that provided numerous twists and turns, one thing that remained constant was the ever reliable Gryan Miers who put together a solid performance against Fremantle.

Miers collected a team high 23 disposals on Saturday afternoon, adding six score involvements and a goal of the year contender early in the second quarter.

Speaking with K Rock following the game, Miers said that the Cats ability to dig deep on the road was a highlight of their thrilling win.

“We were very pleased with the outcome,” Miers told K Rock.

“Coming up against a team at home that has been playing really well this year, the games they have lost they have been right in it all the way.

“We had to really dig deep and we were very satisfied with our performance, I am proud of the boys with how they delivered that.”

Possibly the best moment from Miers performance came in the final two minutes, when he laid an important tackle on Andrew Brayshaw to stop a Fremantle fastbreak through the middle.

Not only did it stop the Dockers forward press, but the ensuing stoppage also landed in the hands of Shaun Mannagh who booted the game sealing goal.

Miers’ tackle symbolised a terrific defensive effort from the Cats, who laid 22 more tackles than their opposition while holding Fremantle to just nine goals for the game.

Noting how important the defensive aspect of their game is, Miers was particularly impressed with how the midfield worked together to restrict some of Fremantle’s most damaging players.

“We want to be on all the time defensively, but it does waver here and there throughout a long year,” Miers said.

“It was a big game for us and it shows that we can stand up in the big moments.

“Going up against a really fantastic midfield that Fremantle have, it was a real message for us that we needed to pressure those guys because they can chain the ball so well.

“We knew if we could apply a lot of pressure early, we could make their day really tough.

“We were able to get the reward at the end of the game, it was a really pleasing defensive performance by everyone.”
