The Cats are preparing to celebrate Tom Hawkins on Saturday afternoon, when Geelong take on West Coast at GMHBA Stadium in the final round of the home and away season.
Over 18 seasons in the Hoops, Hawkins has played 115 games at Kardinia Park and holds a staggering 85.2% win rate at the venue across his career.
The big Cat has booted 275 goals over those 115 games but has put together a number of match winning performances in his time.
We take a look back at Hawkins top six games at GMHBA Stadium.
1. Round 18, 2018 – Hawkins dominates the Demons
Hawkins best performance at GMHBA Stadium came late in the 2018 season, when the spearhead tore Melbourne’s defence to shreds in a sublime performance.
With the Cats trailing by 29 points early in the last quarter, Hawkins put the team on his back booting four goals to pull Geelong back within a kick just prior to the final siren.
The Cat was then involved in the chain that saw the ball land in the hands of Zach Tuohy, who booted the game winning goal after the siren to break Melbourne hearts.
Hawkins finished with seven goals for the night, dishing off two goal assists and collecting 13 contested possessions to earn himself three Brownlow votes in a remarkable display.
2. Round 4, 2022 – Tomahawk Tames the Lions
The Lions came to town on a three-game win streak early in 2022, but they were met with the full force of the Tomahawk who put together another match winning performance.
On a night where only 22 goals were kicked between the sides, Hawkins booted five majors and pulled down five contested marks to put Brisbane to the sword.
Geelong trailed at the three quarter time, but the big Hawk was influential in the last quarter and booted the final goal of the game as the Cats secured a 10 point win.
No other Geelong player managed to kick multiple goals on the night, with Hawkins securing three Brownlow votes in front of the Cats faithful.
3. Round 16, 2021 – Hawkins Clips the Bombers Wings
Geelong faced a big challenge when Essendon laid down the gauntlet in 2021, with the Bombers booting the opening four goals of the game to skip out to an early 25 point lead.
But the Cats got on the shoulders of Hawkins and he certainly didn’t disappoint, booting three goals in the second term to get his side back in the lead quickly.
The margin still remained tight deep into the third quarter, before the spearhead once again took over booting three of the next four goals to help the Cats cruise to a 41 point win.
Hawkins finished the night with six majors and a goal assist, securing two Brownlow votes in another prolific display against an opponent he took a liking to his entire career.
4. Round 19, 2018 – Big Cat runs Brisbane Ragged
Fresh off his match winning performance against the Demons, Hawkins took no time getting going again with another a big haul against Brisbane the very next week.
Tomahawk finished with a remarkable stat line collecting 22 disposals, taking eight marks inside 50 and booting seven goals for the second straight week.
The Cats went on to claim a 42 point win over the Lions, with Hawkins securing his second consecutive three Brownlow votes.
5. Round 10, 2014 – Hawkins sends Roos home with tail between their legs
An exciting top eight clash loomed in 2014 when the Kangaroos visited GMHBA Stadium, but Hawkins quickly put to bed any fears of an upset victory for the visitors.
The Tomahawk booted three goals in the first half and one more early into the third quarter, helping the Cats establish a big lead which they would never surrender.
Hawkins finished the night with four majors, but also collected 14 contested possessions and dished off three goal assists to earn two Brownlow votes in the big win.
6. Round 23, 2014 – Hawk Buries the Lions ……. Again
The final game on this list was another 2014 masterclass and another dominant display against Brisbane from the big Hawk.
Geelong struggled to put the Lions away in the first half, leading by just 14 points early in third quarter but the Cats turned to their spearhead who didn’t let them down.
Hawkins went on to kick seven goals, taking nine marks inside 50 as the Cats pulled away to claim a big 62-point victory.
