Becky Webster at Geelong Cats Training

Locked in with the Cats on a long term deal and elevated to co-vice-captain for the 2024 season, Becky Webster is set to be a key factor this year as Geelong look to take their game to the next level.

Webster is heading into her seventh AFLW season, coming off a successful 2023 campaign which saw the Cats star make a shift from the midfield to half back.

After missing the opening three weeks of the season, Webster played the next 10 consecutive matches averaging 18 disposals, five intercept possessions and five tackles per game.

Webster joined Cameron Ling and Meghan McDonald on this week’s episode of ‘To the Final Bell,’ touching on her motivating factors heading into the 2024 season.

“The more you are around an elite environment, the more you can prosper in your career,” Webster said.

“Geelong is that sort of environment where you can be yourself and really elevate to where you want to be, you have the support around you. It is super exciting, I feel like I can take my game to the next level this year with that support.

“I feel right at home here in Geelong and this is where I want to play the rest of my football. The girls are great, the coaching staff is amazing and it feels right to be here for as long as I can.”

Geelong announced earlier in the year their six-player leadership group, with the team to be led once again by captain Meghan McDonald.

Webster joined the Cats’ leadership group in 2022 season 7, elevated to co-vice-captain ahead of the 2024 season alongside star on-baller Nina Morrison.

With a will to achieve success with the current playing group, Webster said her leadership role was not something she planned but rather a natural progression over time.

“I have always tried to be as genuine as I can be and my authentic self,” Webster said.

“I really want to push the standards amongst the group and I want the ultimate success at this club, alongside the girls that we have.

“That has driven me down a leadership path, I was not aspiring to be a vice-captain or anything like that.

“I was lucky enough that the girls and the club saw me in that light, I feel very fortunate to be in that position.”

The Cats will take on Melbourne this Saturday night in Week 1 of the AFLW season. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster, or follow the link below to view Geelong AFLW membership options for the 2024 season.
