Geelong Cats have announced their coaching group ahead of the 2024 NAB AFLW Season.

The Cats have made one addition to the panel which guided the team to last year’s Preliminary Final, with Andrew Allthorpe joining as a Development Coach.

Dan Lowther is set to enter his fourth season as Senior Coach, having steered Geelong to back-to-back finals campaigns for the first time in the AFLW history across the past two seasons.

Andrew Bruce (forwards), Josh Finch (midfield) and Elise Coventry (defence) continue in their roles as Assistant Coaches, with Will Sexton and AFL forward Gary Rohan continuing as Development Coaches, alongside Allthorpe.

David Morgan will continue in his role as Bench Coach, with former Geelong and Sydney AFL ruck Paul Chambers continuing as talls coach.

Geelong Cats Assistant General Manager of Football Brett Johnson said the stability of the coaching group has helped with the continued improvement in building and executing the Cats’ game style.

“We’re really thankful and appreciative of the work of our coaching team,” Johnson said.

“Dan is doing an excellent job leading the team, and is well supported by an experienced and knowledgeable coaching group.

“We’re fortunate to have had great stability within the group, which has enabled us to keep evolving our game style and provides consistency for our playing group.”

Allthorpe has an impressive coaching career in the pathways system locally, particularly through his five years as Head Coach at the Geelong Falcons, more recently, developing the next generation of young footballers at Geelong Grammar, where he has been the First XVIII Coach since 2017.

“Andrew has had a lot of coaching experience in the pathways system at the Falcons, and currently at Geelong Grammar,” Johnson said.

“His knowledge and experience will be a welcome addition to the group.”

Geelong Cats also delivered their Women’s Coach Development Program in July, with participants gaining invaluable insights into a high-performance environment at the Club and partaking in an AFL-accredited course for coaches of Women and Girls footballers.

The Cats open their AFLW season against Melbourne at GMHBA Stadium this Saturday, 31 August. Secure your ticket to the Saturday night showdown against Melbourne via Ticketmaster.
