The initial 40 player squad for 2024 Smithy’s VFL Team of the Year has been announced, with two Cats rewarded for their stellar seasons. 

Ted Clohesy and Mitch Hardie have both been named in the squad, with the pair performing strongly all year to help Geelong secure their place in the top four. 

Clohesy has played 15 VFL matches this season averaging 22 disposals, seven score involvements and seven tackles per game. 

Hardie has been a dominant force through the midfield in 2024, playing 17 matches and averaging 30 disposals, six clearances and five tackles per game. 
 
The final team of 24 players will be named on Monday, September 16 at the 2024 VFL and VFLW Awards, with a captain and coach also selected. 
 
Players must have played a minimum of nine matches to be considered for selection in the 2024 Smithy's VFL Team of the Year, AFL-listed players are eligible to be selected.
