With the 2024 AFL season now done and dusted, it is time to look back on some of Geelong’s iconic moments from the year.

The second moment in this series takes a look back at round two, when the Cats travelled to Adelaide to take on the Crows looking to make it back-to-back wins to open the season.

The match was an important one for more than one reason, with star defender Tom Stewart celebrating his 150th game in the Friday night showdown.

Despite copping some attention from Adelaide's small forwards, the five-time All Australian proceeded to do what he does best and put together a scintillating performance across half back.

Early in the first term the Crows were pressing hard, but Stewart stood tall taking three intercept marks by the quarter time break.

The domination from Geelong's premier defender did not stop there, as Stewart went on to equal the AFL record taking 10 intercept marks for the game.

Along with his aerial prowess, Stewart also collected 28 possessions and went at 89% efficiency to secure the three Brownlow votes.

As for the game itself, the Cats jumped out of the blocks kicking six of the last seven goals in the opening term to take a 19-point lead into the first break.

The margin narrowed slightly heading into half time, but a four goal burst in the middle of the third quarter saw Geelong skip away to a 24-point lead at three quarter time.

From there the Cats were able to lock the game down, Adelaide not getting any closer than 14-points before a pair of late goals helped Geelong close out a 19-point win.

Stewart's prolific performance had an incredible impact on the game, as the Cats moved to two wins from their opening two games.
