Geelong Cats have bolstered their VFL list heading into 2025, with Jay Rantall set to pull on the Hoops next year.
Rantall was a highly-touted midfielder out of the GWV Rebels, and was selected by Collingwood with pick 40 in the 2019 national draft.
He would go on to make his AFL debut in the 2021 season against Essendon, playing five games at the top level in that season before being released by the Magpies at the end of the year.
Since then, Rantall has spent time playing in the SANFL and the VFL, most recently playing four matches for Werribee in the 2024 VFL season.
Rantall’s addition to the Cats’ VFL program follows the recent signing of former AFLW Cat and Magpie Nathan Kreuger.
The two exciting additions will bring valuable experience and craft to Geelong’s VFL team next year, as the Cats look to build on a great season which saw them secure a top-four berth in 2024.
Geelong VFL Coach Mark Corrigan, who in 2024 led the Cats back to Finals action for the first time since 2019, welcomed the signing of Rantall.
“Jay Rantall brings some AFL experience and he is an elite runner,” Corrigan said.
“He is a really nice ball user, someone who will complement our inside midfielders, he is going to complement that group really well, and again he is another mature body coming in."
