Geelong captain, Patrick Dangerfield has been recognised for his dominant display against Melbourne on Friday night, awarded a perfect 10 votes from the coaches. 

Spending time both through the midfield and forward, Dangerfield booted a game-high three goals against the Demons while also collecting 20 disposals and nine score involvements. 

It caps off a stellar start to the season for the Cats skipper, who has kicked an equal team-high seven goals across the opening month of the season, settling into his new role nicely. 

Young gun, Connor O'Sullivan has also been recognised for his strong performance, receiving the first coaches votes of his AFL career.

The round two Rising Star nominee collected 23 disposals and 13 marks against the Demons, while also picking off a team-high eight intercept possessions to be awarded five coaches votes. 

Shaun Mannagh (18 disposals, one goal), Bailey Smith (28 disposals, eight tackles) and Zach Guthrie (30 disposals, 17 marks) all received four votes in Friday night's clash, while Sam De Koning (18 disposals, nine marks) was also awarded two votes. 

After the first four weeks of the AFL season, Bailey Smith remains on top of the Cats leaderboard with 14 total votes, closely followed by Patrick Dangerfield who moves to 11 votes for the year. 

The AFL Coaches Association’s AFL Champion Player Award is an award voted by the 18 coaching panels on a 5,4,3,2,1 basis after each home and away game, acknowledging outstanding effort by an individual player in a season.
