The Victorian Football League has today announced the Smithy’s VFL State Team ahead of their clash with the SANFL’s West End State Team during Gather Round.

Geelong VFL star, Nathan Kreuger has been selected in the final team for the 2025 AAMI State Game, which will be played at Tanunda Recreation Park in the Barossa on Saturday, April 12.

It is reward for effort for the key defender after starting the 2025 season brilliantly, averaging 16 disposals, eight marks and nine intercept possessions per game across the VFL Cats' first three matches.

Kreuger commenced his career with the Cats back in 2019 and spent three years with the club, before moving to Collingwood in 2022 and spending a further three seasons there.

At the end of last year it was announced that Kreuger would return to where it all began, signing with Geelong's VFL team for the 2025 season.

The Smithy’s VFL State Team will be looking for atonement in the 2025 AAMI State Game after falling to the SANFL by 14 points in last year’s clash at Glenelg’s Stratarama Stadium.

It was the first time the Smithy’s VFL State Team had been on the representative stage since 2017 and reignited the rivalry between the VFL and SANFL which dates back to the late 1800s.

The Smithy’s VFL State Team coaching panel was announced recently, with Box Hill Hawks coach Zane Littlejohn reappointed as head coach.
