James Sutherland has advised the Board he will step down from his position as Director of the Club.

Sutherland has been part of the Club’s Board of Directors for the past six years, having joined in October 2019.

As part of his role, Sutherland has also served on the Club’s Finance and Audit committee, playing a key role in the Club’s strong off-field position.

Geelong Cats President Grant McCabe thanked Sutherland for his contribution to the Cats during his tenure.

“James is a highly respected business leader in the sports industry, and the Club has benefited from the breadth and experience James has brought to his role on the Board.

“We thank James for his dedication and commitment over the past six years and for the important contribution he has made to the growth and stability of the Club.

“Thank you also to James’ family Heidi, Will, Annabel and Tom for their support of the Club, and they will always be welcome as part of the Geelong Football Club community.”

Sutherland expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to serve on the Club’s Board.

“My tenure on the Cats Board has coincided with several significant milestones in our Club’s history.  Amongst other things, I feel very fortunate to have been at the Club during the introduction and integration of the Cats AFLW team, the completion of the Stage 5 redevelopment, and of course the 2022 AFL Premiership.

“It has been an honour and a privilege to serve on the Board.  As a lifelong Cats fan, I am extremely grateful for the opportunity.

“I have great respect for the Club and its leadership, and have learnt a lot working closely with my board colleagues and the executive team.  Geelong’s unmistakable care for and celebration of its people is nicely balanced by a fierce desire to chase greatness.

“Whilst I will miss the direct connection through the board role, I will, as always, together with my family, look forward to the week-to-week joy of watching the Cats play footy.”
