Geelong and Hawthorn squared off twice in the 2024 AFL season, the first was a memorable clash at the MCG while the second and most recent, saw the Hawks travel to GMHBA Stadium for just the second time since 2006.

It was a highly anticipated game, Geelong were pushing for a top four berth while the resurgent Hawks were rapidly ascending up the ladder.

The Cats shot out of the blocks in a dominant start, slamming through the opening four goals to take a healthy 22 point lead into the first break.

In his 200th AFL game, Gary Rohan was instrumental early kicking two majors to help his side get off to the perfect start.

Keeping the foot down in the second quarter, Geelong piled on another five goals to open up a 34 point margin at half time.

The dominance around the ground was telling, the Cats leading most major statistics including disposals, contested possessions and inside 50 entries.

Looking to keep the dangerous Hawks quiet after half time, Geelong continued to extend their lead with another four goals in the third term, breaking away to an unassailable 42 point buffer at the final break.

With the game seemingly in hand, the Cats solidified the victory with another three majors in the last quarter, eventually closing out a 51 point victory at GMHBA Stadium.

Sam De Koning stamped his authority on the match with a dominant display in the ruck, finishing the night with 20 disposals, 15 hit-outs and two goals.

Jeremy Cameron was awarded the three votes on Brownlow night, kicking an equal game-high four goals from his 19 disposals, while Tom Stewart (26 disposals) and Brad Close (four goals) were heavily influential also.

The Cats play their next three games at the MCG with 80,000+ expected for their home game against the Hawks on Easter Monday!
