Carlton v Geelong Cats

MCG, Melbourne

Sunday 27th April, 3.20pm (AEST)

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Geelong: Oliver Dempsey

Is there a player who enjoys playing at the MCG more than Ollie Dempsey?

The 2024 Rising Star utilises the wide expanses of the ground with his incredible work rate and speed, which was on full display against Hawthorn where he collected 19 disposals and kicked two goals, while also recording six score involvements.

Across his last six appearances at the MCG, Dempsey has hit the scoreboard in every match booting eight goals, while also averaging 19 disposals per game.

Carlton: George Hewett

In the midst of a shaky start to the season for Carlton, George Hewett has stood out with a brilliant stretch of games and has consistently featured amongst the Blues best players each week.

The tough on-baller has amassed 25 disposals or more in each of his first six games in 2025, accumulating 39 disposals (Round 5) and 34 disposals (Round 6) in his most recent two outings.

Hewett's work around stoppages has been particularly impressive, averaging over eight clearances and seven tackles per game to help drive plenty of Carlton's offense from the source.

RECENT HISTORY

The two teams have squared off in some memorable matches over the past few years, particularly the first clash last year and the meeting in 2023 which were both decided by two kicks.

Carlton got the better of the Cats in the most recent meeting, but Geelong have held the ascendancy dating back to 2010 winning 13 of the past 17 matches against the Blues.
