No repeat of Rd 2
This Friday night the Cats must take control of the Roos earlier in the game so they're not forced to play catch up footy like last time
Cats TV spoke to Josh Hunt and Scott Gullan about the Cats last meeting with the Roos where they were forced to make a 41-point comeback.
The Cats would find it hard to forget their last encounter in Round 2 against the Kangaroos, where they just managed to make it over the line by 4-points, after trailing behind for most of the game.
Hunt is aware of where the Roos’ strengths lie and says the Cats won’t be taking the contest lightly, despite their 10th position on the ladder.
“Last time they spread the ground really well and they used the corridor and pretty much played the way we wanted to play and it was really hard to stop once they opened up the ground and used their runners and foot skills.”
“I think the main thing is we have to win in the contest and once they have they ball we need to be really strong with our pressure and not let them get a run on because they’ve got some dangerous players on every line.”
“It’s just a matter of turning up and doing our basics well and making sure they can’t get their tails up.”
Even though the Kangaroos are not renowned for their defence tactics, Scott believes they have the capacity to charge away with the ball and score quickly if they’re given the chance.
“They play at that stadium very well and they’re very fast and if you don’t get them at the contest you can’t really strangle them, it’s been well documented that their defensive side isn’t great but they can run and gun best than anyone.”
“They are one of the few teams that can play well when they’re on and that’s what Geelong’s got to watch’ don’t let them get going.”
