Hard luck Geelong star Daniel Menzel could return to football when the Cats take on Sandringham in the VFL next week.

Menzel, who ruptured his ACL in the 2011 qualifying final win over Hawthorn then suffered the same fate in his other knee in his first VFL game last season, is almost ready to return.

"I'm hoping to play next week in the VFL,'' Menzel told the club's inner sanctum at the pre-game lunch.

"I’ve done three weeks of full training, I’ve done a lot of tackling. I haven’t felt it at all. Very confident I’ll be right to go next week or the week after.

"For me, I’m as confident as ever in my knees. The LARS procedure I had actually feels as strong if not stronger than the other two I’ve had.

"It's an exciting time at the moment. We've just got to clear up a few things early next week and we’ll make that decision."
