As we headtowards the 2014 AFL NAB draft, Geelong’s senior defender Andrew Mackie joinsCats TV to reminisce about the day when he got the call up from Geelong.
Cutting short schoolies’week to be home with family, Mackie was fortunate he didn’t have a long wait betweenwaking from a restless night’s sleep to receiving his Dad’s call.
“A couple of mymates came around Sunday morning early, obviously you wake up pretty nervousand excited," Mackie recalls.
"Not long after I got up… my old man went over to my uncle’s houseand I got a call and he said we’re going to Geelong.”
“Everyone waspretty happy and it’s a day I won’t forget in a hurry.”
Mackie wasdrafted at pick number seven in the 2002 National Draft from Glenelg, SouthAustralia. Since arriving at the club, the tall defender has played 220 games including threepremierships.
Last year Mackiewas named in the All-Australian squad for the first time.
