Geelong youngster James Parsons underwent surgery on Monday afternoon on his left foot.
Parsons, 19, fractured the fifth metatarsal in his foot after landing awkwardly while on leave from the club over the weekend.
Parsons returned to Geelong on Saturday for scans and specialists advised surgery was the preferred option.
Geelong’s General Manager of Football Steve Hocking said whilst the unlucky incident is disappointing for the young rookie, he is confident Parsons will do everything he can for a quick recovery.
“After starting the year so well, James unfortunately lost his footing while in country Victoria over the weekend,” Hocking said.
“While it’s a setback, all James now has to do is focus on his recovery and rehab process in order to take part in the beginning of the VFL season.”
Expected recovery for Parsons is approximately two months.
