Geelong recruiting and list manager Stephen Wells says Jack Steven could be wearing the blue and white hoops next season.
Wells told SEN Breakfast the club had spoken with the four-time St Kilda Best and Fairest winner.
“With the permission of St Kilda we’ve had some meetings with Jack and his manager and I think he wants to come to Geelong, I’m pretty sure of that,” he said.
“He still is a contracted St Kilda player so it will depend on what sort of deal has to be done there and it will also depend on negotiations with his manager for the contract.
“The way it’s headed is there’s a good chance Jack will be at Geelong.”
Wells says both clubs were working towards getting the best result for Steven, after the talented midfielder stepped away from the game to deal with mental health concerns this year.
Steven comes from Lorne and played his under-18 football for the Geelong Falcons.
The 29-year-old pulled on the Saints jumper just seven times this season after playing 17 games or more in each of his previous eight campaigns.
“We’ve spoken to the Saints, we can’t do anything really until trade week, but the Saints have been very good in considering Jack’s mental health situation where he had to miss some games this year,” Wells said.
“If it turns out we can do a satisfactory deal for all concerned I think the Saints have made it public that they’re happy to try and help Jack.”
Geelong currently holds picks 17, 36, 54 and 90 heading into this year's draft.
