Geelong has traded ruckman Trent West to the Brisbane Lions in exchange for the 41st selection in the upcoming national draft.

West, a key member of the Cats 2011 premiership triumph, played 54 games with the Cats since being the 31st pick in the 2005 national draft.

He debuted in the opening round of the 2008 campaign, and played in Geelong’s grand final win over Collingwood in just his 20th game.

“Trent has played a great role for us over his eight years at our club,” Geelong’s general manager of football Neil Balme said.

“He has been an exceptional person to have at our club and he has always striven to improve. We have had a lot of quality ruckmen with during Trent’s time, which has seen his opportunities limited. He never complained, but instead worked on getting better. Over the past three years he has played a big role, and his efforts in the 2011 finals and grand final were important in our success.

“Trent will have a good opportunity at Brisbane and we wish him every success. Trent will always be a Geelong person and we will welcome him back to the club at every opportunity.”

Geelong also agreed to trade unrestricted free agents Josh Hunt, James Podsiadly and Paul Chapman to their new clubs to expedite the process. Geelong received pick 64 from Adelaide for Podsiadly; pick 75 from GWS for Hunt; and selection 84 from Essendon for Chapman.
