The competition for spots in Geelong’s 22 is red-hot following their emphatic 80-point win against Melbourne on Saturday.
This week the ladder-leaders face a new challenge, heading interstate for the first time this year to play the Crows on Thursday night from 7.20pm local time.
With a short five-day turnaround between games, we take a look at which players impressed in the VFL or on the track and are in the mix for a call-up.
Lachie Henderson
Chris Scott confirmed in Tuesday morning’s press conference that Lachie Henderson will return to face the Crows on Thursday night.
“It's pretty clear cut for us, we'd like Lachie in the side," Scott said.
"For the first couple of weeks it hasn't worked out that way and he's performed really well at VFL level and he's been a fantastic influence on the group."
Cam Guthrie
When fit and firing, the 26-year-old is in the Cats best 22. Was used predominantly through the midfield in the JLT, but has played most of his 141 AFL matches from defence and will be firmly in the selection mix this week if can pass a fitness test.
Sam Simpson
Coming into his third season on Geelong’s list. Simpson has put on some considerable size over the pre-season and is pushing hard for more senior action in 2019 after being named in the best against Casey.
Ryan Abbott
Firmly in mix for the trip to Adelaide after being named an emergency for round one. Abbott played four games in his debut season and could be called into this week’s team to support Rhys Stanley in the ruck against Sam Jacobs.
Quinton Narkle
Is firmly in the selection mix to travel to Adelaide after a string of impressive practice match performances at VFL level. The 21-year-old’s speed and contested ball winning ability could come in handy against a potent Adelaide on-ball brigade led by their co-captain Rory Sloane.
Zac Guthrie
Played reduced minutes in the Cats’ practice match defeat to Casey. The skilful young Cat is a like-for-like replacement for fellow defender Jack Henry, should he fail to pass a fitness test later this week.
